Here is a little tip I gave for fridge organization.
Tailor the organizing of your fridge to your specific needs. Food items you frequently access should be in the front of your refrigerator or in the door. Also, using pull-out plastic refrigerator bins allows easier access to items in the back of your refrigerator. – Shirley Collins, My Little Organizer You can find more helpful organizing tips at https://www.redfin.com/blog/creative-fridge-and-pantry-organization-ideas/

Did you know January is GO month? Yep, time for a New Years resolution to “Get Organized!!” It’s after Christmas and there are decorations to take care of and possibly sort (do you still use all of the decorations that you are taking up space to store?). Maybe this is the year to clean out your storage area of old decorations! If you need some help with the process, let us know!!
Do you find your mornings to be hectic when trying to get the kids out the door for school? Consider preparing the night before by laying out clothes, packing lunches, getting cereal dishes and cereal or breakfast bars out, packing backpacks, etc. Make sure any permission slips are signed and in the backpacks, homework is done and packed, and any special projects are included. There's nothing worse than already knowing you're running late then finding out you don't even have what you need packed! Take the frustration out of your mornings and plan ahead! No one should start the day off yelling at their kids because they are stressed out.
As parents, it's up to us to be organized and if we are organized, it sets a good example for the kids to follow. Keep your keys and your wallet/purse handy (close to the door) so you're not scrambling around looking for them as you're on your way out the door. If there is not a table near your door, consider hanging a basket or some hooks for your personal items. Make being organized fun for the kids too - we can get the kids to help if we make things kid-friendly by bringing items down to their level. For instance, put the cereal and snacks down at their level in the pantry so they can get them themselves. Keep their lunch boxes low too, either on hooks in the pantry or in a low cupboard where they can access them (after they unpack them daily and to help repack them daily during the week). This will not only teach them to be responsible and helpful but will help you out as well. Planning and writing things down are important parts of keeping life simple. Doing this can be as easy as using wipe off boards on the frig or setting alarms on your phone. Sometimes visuals are better because they are constant reminders (this is why I mention the wipe off board). Keeping up with school responsibilities in addition to any sports activities can sometimes be overwhelming. So if you keep a family calendar out and updated, it can help the whole family keep track of ongoing activities on a daily basis as well as allowing you to plan ahead. Having a homework station and routine set up is crucial to keeping kids accountable. Don't only designate a time frame but also an area for homework to be done. If your children need your help, be sure and find a time you can focus on helping. Also, make sure you have gone through their backpack to see if there are any permission slips to sign and return or any important notes from the teacher. Most children have a planner that is signed each day by the teacher, also making any necessary comments a parent may need to read. Keeping up with and involving yourself with your children's schoolwork is important. The more involved and helpful you are, the more your children will enjoy school. Placing hooks low near the door or inside the coat closet allows your kids to hang up their backpacks and coats themselves as well. Maybe add an extra hook with a tote bag for "Special" reminders such as gym clothes on gym day or projects. Hopefully these helpful hints will allow you to have an easier year this year....Good Luck! Make things easy and convenient for everyone and that will reduce your stress and clutter! Some people run out of space in their homes so they decide to rent a storage unit (or 2). The main problem with doing this is you can lose track of what you even have. It's similar to having a gym membership but never going. The monthly membership fee gets drafted and you pay for it thinking it's nice to have if you ever decide to use it. So sometimes we end up paying for things we aren't even using. Well, you're using the storage unit but do you know "what" you're storing? Statistics suggest in the U.S., 65% of self-storage renters have a garage in their home, 47% have an attic, and 33% have a basement. This suggests that Americans have more things than their homes allow them even with these extra storage areas.
If you have more "stuff" you are storing or that you know what to do with, consider redirecting your funds towards a professional organizer who can help you get rid of some things, which will help you save money in the long run! Compared to how many holiday decorations you store, how many decorations do you actually put up year round? I'm referring to ALL holidays..... Spring/Easter, Patriotic Holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas to name a few! Several clients I have assisted in getting organized have had an abundance of holiday decorations, many that they said they weren't even using anymore.
These types of items take up a lot of storage space so it's a good idea to go through them every couple of years and get rid of the ones you are no longer using. You can check with family to see if they want them, sell them in a garage sale or donate them. The key is using your storage space for items you want to keep/use. Just think for a minute how much storage space you could gain if you thinned out the holiday items you no longer use. If you need help in this process, we would love to be a part of it. How many times have you entered a room or your garage and thought, “I really need to do something about this clutter.”? We live busy lives…work, kids, sports, meals, birthday celebrations, etc…. Call, text or e-mail today!! Every year the Westerville (Ohio) Division of Police holds an FREE event called S.O.S. Day. They offer a full day of education covering a range of topics including insurance fraud and scams, identity theft protection, personal safety and security solutions, care giving aid, and estate planning.
S.O.S. Day is designed for seniors, as well as caregivers. There will be local experts in attendance to answer questions and provide information on resources and services to protect older adults. My Little Organizer will have a table there (since we have served several seniors in planning, organizing, and moving as well). They will also offer door prizes and a free lunch. This year, S.O.S. Day will be held on Saturday, March 25th at Westerville South High School from 9 AM - Noon. For more information call: (614) 901-6860. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!! Why is it people pay to have their house cleaned or their lawn mowed but they don't want to make an investment in getting organized? Having your house cleaned or lawn mowed only lasts for a short time before it needs done again. Once your garage, kitchen, basement, or entire home is organized, it can reduce stress, frustration, and arguments that will ultimately make your life easier. Once you have been shown the best way to keep your things organized you are done! No more ongoing payments! Reducing your stress and frustrations is worth paying for.
Think about your monthly budget, what "luxuries" do you spend money on? Personally, we are about the only people in our neighborhood who actually mow our own lawn. Our neighbors hire it out. Is it because they don't have the time or energy, or both? Certainly it's easier to pay someone else to do things you either don't want to do or don't have time to do. Think about how nice it would be to have a place for everything and have everything in its place. Hiring a professional organizer can help you do just that! Take a moment to assess your priorities & decide if reducing the stress of that garage, kids room, closet or whatever it is, is worth it. Is today the day you are going to go to bed with that problem on your mind or will you decide to hire a professional organizer to solve that problem so you can move on to the next thing in your life? |
